Organizations are vulnerable to the impact of security breach a study finds, according to coverage in the Security magazine article: “Experian’s Data Breach Preparedness Study: Increased Investments in Security Aren’t Stopping Breaches.”

Experian surveyed more than 1,100 professionals in the U.S. an EMEA (Europe, the Middle East and Africa) for its report, “Seventh Annual Study: Is Your Company Ready for a Big Data Breach?”

From the report: “Organizations are challenged to respond to the loss or theft of confidential business information and intellectual property. Sixty-seven percent of respondents say their organizations are most concerned about the loss or theft of intellectual property. … since 2017 the ability to respond to a data [security] breach involving this type of information has not improved significantly. Organizations are better able to respond to breaches that require notification to victims and regulators.”

The story explains that while organizations are investing more time and resources toward security breach prevention and preparation, more than 50 percent of respondents reported “a data breach involving more than 1,000 records.”

Companies are taking additional measures to boost breach preparedness, including assessing access to confidential information, conducting background checks on employees and vendors, and subscribing to dark web monitoring services.
