Hikvision on Reduce Risk of Hack Using Password Managers

The U.K.-based National Cybersecurity Center (NCSC) released the top 100,000 passwords from this Have I Been Pwned set, a list of passwords found to be used by threat actors to hack accounts and attempt security breach, according to an article in Security magazine.

From the NCSC announcement: “Password re-use is still a major risk for individuals and companies. The password '123456' has been found 23 million times in the [security] breaches that Troy [Hunt] collected [administrator of the “Have I Been Pwned” site]. You might think that choosing a more complex password such as 'oreocookie' is better, but even that has been seen over 3,000 times.”

The top 10 passwords from Security magazine’s coverage include the following:

  1. 123456
  2. 123456789
  3. qwerty
  4. password
  5. 111111
  6. 12345678
  7. abc123
  8. 1234567
  9. password1
  10. 12345

The findings highlight the importance of not reusing the same password on multiple sites, as it increases the risk of being hacked and/or being a victim of security breach.

In this blog, “Using Password Managers to Reduce Security Concerns,” Hikvision’s cybersecurity director discusses password managers and management strategies to eliminate password reuse and reduce the risk of hack.
