Hikvision Secures South Africa’s Eskom
Surveillance cameras provided by Hikvision are helping to monitor South Africa’s Eskom, the national electricity provider that owns overhead power lines and several thousand electricity substations in the region, and has been a victim of organized crime.
Targeted for cable theft, metal theft and other infrastructure related crimes, and reporting up to 15 incidents of theft per day, Eskom hired Combined Private Investigations (CPI), a corporate investigations firm with a 90 percent conviction rate.
“At CPI we strive to capitalize on the latest technologies to support our intelligence driven approach. As such, we approached global surveillance leader, Hikvision, to provide the latest electronic security solutions to effectively combat the thefts,” said Roy Robertson, principal director of CPI in the Hikvision case study.
CPI installed Hikvision’s 4MP EXIR Network Bullet security camera and Network PTZ camera with 20 times optical zoom at multiple locations, paired with Hikvision NVRs. CPI monitors live and reviews recorded footage from its central Johannesburg control room.
